Due Pesci (“Two Fishes") is the musical collaboration of Ron Pelletier (percussion) and Thom Blum (electro-acoustics) that began in 2016. The duet revolves around the bonding and dependency of opposites, hence the two fish in a yin-yang orbit. More than a collaboration it's a fusion of styles and of acoustics.
Due Pesci bends styles with glee and categorizing their output is not always easy, since it moves with fluidity from jazz-with-field-recordings to marches-with-psychedelic-feedback. Some surprising combinations evoke more than a couple chuckles.
Stylistic fusions are commonplace in the genres of music that Due Pesci finds itself. This duet achieves something beyond a mere blend of styles. The combination of Pelletier's lyrical and deft drumming with Blum's live sound-processing, feedback, and synthesis results in a unique psychoacoustic affect -- an "instrument" of its own, creating a voice that cannot speak without the presence of its component voices.
Their first release, aptly titled Buon Viaggio, was drawn from live improvisations played by Due Pesci in the Gallery 41 Studio high atop the Berkeley Hills in California from mid-2018 through 2019.
And wait, there's more! Fishy delights await those who translate the titles.
